Rep. Anna G. Eshoo introduced the Election Day Holiday Act in February 2024.

The Act aims to make Election Day a federal holiday in the U.S.

U.S. voter turnout is among the lowest in established democracies. 

The U.S. ranks 23rd in voter turnout out of 38 OECD countries. 

Many OECD countries hold elections on weekends or national holidays. 

A 2022 study found 26% of non-voters were too busy due to work or school. 

Rep. Eshoo emphasized the importance of voting in a democracy. 

The Election Day Holiday Act was first introduced in 2018.
